Teen is a stage in life where people associate to looking up:
- Look up to elders for inspiration
- Look up in Google to gather information
- Look up to career trajectory of successful executives
- Look up to celebrities for what their life story & struggles teach us
Well, in my answer to an Indian Teen, I am going to go the opposite way!
Look to the bottom. Seek the bottom.
Let me explain;
If you try something new, you’ll emerge at some level and that would most likely be the bottom most level in that particular space.
For e.g., If you develop interest to play Volley Ball, by watching your society team playing; trying your hand at it once will make things clear to you that you are way below the other players who have been playing for a while.
But that is the secret essence to success – you are actually getting a clear picture of where you stand. Unless you don’t get that, how will you measure the distance to the peak player’s performance?
How will you know the destination?
So, in a nutshell, “Seek the bottom” by trying different things, and figure out where do you stand. Then it is almost automatic that you’ll realise where to go, what to work upon, how much it takes to do it, etc.,
If you keep looking up, it distracts you from trying unknown things, which probably could be your destiny!
Everyone cribs about unemployment, 44% unemployable, jobs are eroding, automation taking over, etc.,
Whether its true or exaggeration, it is inevitable for you to realise that you (as a teen) are living in that age.
So following what everyone does (by looking up) will give you success? Think about it!
Teen = Trying New Things.
